Ph.D. StudentMusculoskeletal diseases are among the leading factors causing loss of quality of life. As the overall population ages, our physical structures become more susceptible to failure, resulting in chronic pain and limitations in physical functionality. So how can we assist patients who have already suffered musculoskeletal injuries in regaining their functionalities? Furthermore: how can we prevent musculoskeletal injuries in the first place? At the Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, our goal is to develop soft exosuits that provide support both before and after musculoskeletal disorders occur. My primary motivation is to understand how nature has designed our biomechanic structures. By understanding the overarching principles of movement, we can design technical solutions to provide support when needed.
