I obtained my PhD in 2008 and spent two years as a post-doctoral researcher at Harvard University, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I spent the next ten years as a Scientist and an Assistant Professor in Singapore.
My research interests are generally "soft".
"Soft" imbues versatility and "soft" offers exciting opportunities in research and development. The physics, mechanics and engineering of soft materials require deep understanding of numerous concepts still not well-known to scientists and engineers. For one, its stress-strain behavior isn't well-behaved to begin with. Its mechanism of loss is largely statistical. If one adds another physical dimension to interact with soft materials, for instance, electric field, heat or light, new physics would multiply.
I thereby take great delight in the exploration and creation in anything soft.
